आज की इस आधुनिक जीवनशैली में अक्सरां देखा जाता है कि लोग नियमों में बंधना पसंद नहीं करते है। फिर चाहे वे नियम उनके व्यावसायिक, सामाजिक या व्यक्तिगत जीवन से सम्बिन्धत क्यों न हों! उनके हिसाब से नियम स्वयं के फ्रीडम-ज़ोन स्वतंत्रता में दखल पैदा करते है।
परन्तु वास्तविकता में एक नियमबद्ध जीवन ही सफलता की कुंजी होता है। पश्चिम अमरीका के प्रसिद्ध लेखक व युवा लीडरशित कोच इस्राएलमोर आईवोर अपनी पुस्तक ‘शेपिंग द ड्रीम्स‘ में लिखते है - ‘'Every game has rules. Life is also a game that has
its respective rules; obey the rules.' अर्था्त जिस प्रकार किसी भी खेल को खेलने के लिए उससे सम्बन्धित नियम होते है, उसी प्रकार जीवन भी एक खेल है, जिसके कुछ विशेष नियम है। उन नियमांे को निभाने पर ही जीवन रूपी खेल मंे विजयश्री का वरण किया जा सकता है।
एस सुदृढ़ समाज का निर्माण भी नियमों के पालन से ही पुरा होता है। अगर समाज में कोई नियम ही न हो, प्रत्येक को मनचाहा कर्म करने की स्वतंत्रता हो - तो उस समाज में केवल अव्यवस्था, अन्याय, अत्याचार, अनुचित व अर्थहीन व्यवहार की ही झलक दिखेगी। इसे समझाते हुए गुरूदेव श्री आशुतोष महाराज जी अपने प्रवचनों में एक दृष्टांत सुनाया करते है। जब रूस को आज़ादी प्राप्त हुई, तब एक व्यक्ति सड़क के बीचोबीच चल रहा था। तभी एक ट्रैफिक पुलिसमैन की नज़र उस व्यक्ति पर पड़ गई। उसने उसको सड़क के किनारे चलने की सलाह दी। उतर स्वरूप उस व्यक्ति ने कहा - 'Russia is free! I am free! I can walk anywhere I like'! रूस आज़ाद है। मैं भी आज़ाद हुं। जहां मेरा मन चाहेगा, मैं वहीं चलूंगा‘ प्रत्युतर में ट्रैफिक पुलिस ने भी कह दिया - 'Yes, Russia is free. अतः जब कोई नियम के विरूद्ध जाता है, तब वह स्वार्थी होकर स्वयं को ही नही बल्कि समूचे समाज को नुकसान पहुंजाता है। इसलिए कह सकते है कि नियम ही सुव्यवस्थित समाज की नींव होते है।
यदि हम बात करंे गुरू-शिष्य के सर्वोतम सम्बन्ध की, तो यहां भी नियमांे का विशिष्ट स्थान है। गुरूदेव की आज्ञाएं शिष्य के लिए नियम समान होती है। हालांकि ये आज्ञा रूपी नियम कठोर अवश्य लगते हैं। कभी कभी तो निजी-आज़ादी के अवरोधक भी। पर यह सर्वविदित है कि जो नदी स्वयं को बांध के समक्ष समर्पित कर देती है, वही संयमित होकर विद्युत उत्पन्न करने में भी सक्षम हो पाती है। लाखो - करोड़ों लोगों के जीवन को रोशन करने का एक सशक्त माध्यम बन जाती है।
ठीक उसी प्रकार जब एक शिष्य गुरू-आज्ञा के बांध में बंध जाता है, उसका शिष्यत्व तो उत्कृष्टता को प्राप्त होता ही है। साथ ही, वह अपने श्रेष्ठ आचरण और व्यक्तिव से विश्व-पटल पर ऐसी अनुठी छाप छोड़ता है, जो आने वाली अनेक पीढ़ियों के लिए प्रेरणा स्रोत बन जाती है।

Therefore, when someone goes against the rules, then he selfishly harms not only himself but the entire society. Therefore we can say that rules are the foundation of a well-organized society.
If we talk about the best relationship between the teacher and the disciple, then here also the rules have a special place. Gurudev's commandments are the same as the rules for a disciple. However, these rules of command must seem harsh. Sometimes even inhibitors of personal freedom.
