A Bond of Divine Love between the Guru and the Disciple
ईश्वर का एक बंधन के बीच प्यार गुरु और शिष्य
Thou
art my mother, father, friend and companion
Thou
art my wisdom and my wealth
Thou
art everything in this world to me, my Lord!
he
loving relationship between Guru and a true disciple is very wonderful and
sublime. When the devotee surrenders himself completely, dedicates every breath
of his life to the lotus feet of his beloved Guru, and pines every moment for
his revered Master, deluged in his holy remembrance, the union of the lover and
the beloved becomes eternal. The Guru also
pines for the devotee. The relationship of a Guru and a true disciple is
immortal. Jesus Christ and his Spiritual Master, John the Baptist are a perfect
example of this. There are numerous
passages in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible which infer that John the
Baptist was Elijah (Elias) and Jesus was
Elisha (Eliseus) in their past lives; and, in their past lives also they had a
Guru- disciple relationship.
Saint
Kabir says that for a disciple no one is as benevolent and as kind as is his
Perfect Master. He states, 'It is the
mercy of my true Guru that has made me know the unknown; 1 have learnt from him
how to walk without feet, to see without eyes, to hear without ears, to drink
without my mouth, to fily without wings; I have brought my love and my
meditation into the land where there is no sun and moon, nor day and night.
Without eating have tasted the sweetness of nectar; and without water I have
quenched my thirst. Where there is the
response of delight, there is the fullness of joy. Before whom can that joy be uttered ? He also states
that given the way people love their immediate family, if the disciple loves
his Guru equally, then, for such a devotee, liberation becomes very easy.
The
love of Amir Khusro towards his Guru Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia is also an ideal
example of how divinity can be expressed between the relationship of a Guru and
his disciple. Amir Khusro had a deep divine attachment with his Guru. He spent
most of his time with him, and Hazrat
Nizamuddin also loved him more than his spiritual heir, Nasiruddin Roshan
Chiragh Dehlavi. Once Amir Khusro was travelling through the desert with gold, silver
and jewels on his camels to see his Master. He could not wait any longer to see
the glimpse of his Master and was feeling restless and impulsive. On his way,
he sawa group of singers; they were coming from the court of Hazrat Nizamuddin.
He stopped them and with tears in his eyes asked about the well-being of his Master.
But the disappointed singers told Amir Khusro that they sang in the court of
Hazrat Nizamuddin and in return only received the old sandals of the Guru. Just
by seeing the sandals of his beloved Guru, Amir Khusro felt very joyous and asked
the singers to give him the sandals in exchange for all the wealth he was
carrying on those
camels.
After making that trade, Amir Khusro felt very blissful and carried the sandals
on his head and presented them to his
Master. In one of his Qawwalis (folk songs), mir Khusro sang ecstatically about
Nizamuddin Aulia, his Master, when he came back to his mother after receiving
his divine audience.
What
a glow everywhere I see,
Oh
mother, what a glow;
I've
found the beloved, yes I found him,
in
my courtyard;
My
world is illuminated
my
universe is illuminated;
I have
never seen a glow like this before.
I have
found my Guru Nizamuddin Aulia.
Nizamuddin
Aulia, Nizamuddin Aulia.
Wherever
I see now, he is with me;
I
roamed around the entire world,
(Looking
for an ideal beloved).
Oh
beloved, please dye me in your colour;
Oh
Nizamuddin!
Amir
Khusro's love for his Master was so strong that when he came to know that his
Master had left his body, could not take the pain of separation from him and died
on the grave of his Master. About the divine union, he said, I become you, you
become me; I'll be the body and you'll be the soul, so that nobody could say,
I'm not a part of you. So deep and unique is the love that exists between
disciple and his beloved Guru.
